Poetry by D.Sukharev Translated by E.Mirvis
Red shirt boy
Little boy dressed in a red shirt
Throwing stones to the ocean.
Ocean swallows the rocks’ commotion,
It doesn’t show the surface rings.
This world has no fish, no people
No gulls or coasts anymore.
No more on whole planet Earth-mates,
Ocean’s buried under foam-wool,
From the depth,
The light smooth and cool,
Through the water penetrates.
Little boy dressed in a red shirt,
Man of amateurish age,
He throws stones to the ocean
Waving thin arms in slow motion,
After stones fly offstage.
Like a hamster in a trap,
The stone’s plop is fading out.
The World that bridles us, about,
In an abyss of a time that flows..
A seagull’s crying in the sky,
A fish is crying who knows why?
Seldom outflow starts naughty…
The boy is cheerful and snotty.
